Day 3

 Although we started 45 minutes late the pilot did manage to shave 10 minutes off the journey (should have put his foot down more) but alas that wasn’t good enough for us


Being late meant that multiple planes landed at the same time so immigration was a nightmare


Luckily we had filled in the correct websites but despite    that and being able to pick up the bags quite quickly we missed our connecting flight to Osaka


Bugger


We are customers of Japan Airlines and so the bent over backwards to get us on another flight 3 or so hours later


We’d been up for over 36 hours by now mind so we were really flagging





Well some of us were



I managed to book another taxi and after a 45 minute plane ride he sent me 8 pictures depicting a map of how to find him


We were so tired that after the first 4 we were hopelessly lost and he had to come and find us 🙄


Still, all’s well that ends well and we got to the Hotel Granvia at last


First impressions are that it looks very nice and in a good location for the trains


Best bit of the day - taking our compression socks off for a shower - bliss


Knackered we thought we’d still better eat so we all had a pizza (Gullis family Asian tradition) and back to the room by 9:30 to crash




Just hope the family at home remember we are 9 hours ahead

Today’s the last day and we decided to celebrate with….. a minuscule lie in - meet up at 8 Off to Starbucks for our usual and then our day was set aside for shopping Joss was in charge so took us off to Koenji. It promised us vintage shops and it didn’t disappoint  We had lunch there and afterwards went back to Shibuya so Hattie could buy her k-pop stuff In fact I got in the act too and bought the Tokyo FC shirt that I wanted to buy at the game - it would have always eaten at me had I not got it Then we finally did it - we broke Hattie - 14 days of 10s of thousands of steps and that was enough - she needed some recovery time Kieren also wanted to go back to the hotel (for Wi-Fi) so it really was win win Joss and I found a bar called Kirin City which had the most polite barman of Tokyo - we loved having a couple there We then did a bit of packing, checked in for boarding passes online then met up with K and H to take them to the Hub British Bar for drinks and dinner Then we went for...

Day 5

We got our acts together enough today to meet up at 9 and had some pastries / rolls at our usual Starbucks Then we set off for Kyoto Now, when you are faced with a plethora of platforms and destinations it’s SO easy to find which one you want because of the numbering and colour coding but f*** me finding the entrance that you need is nigh on impossible  I was pulling my hair out  I asked one woman for help but she spoke no English but the 2nd person I asked not only was Japanese but had just returned from living in New York so his English was excellent  - which I complimented him on. I do wish I’d known about the New York thing before I did that, mind So he led us confidently approx 20 yards from the spot we were standing and said “it’s that way” - d’oh!!!! So we boarded the train and it took about 30 minutes to get to Kyoto from there we took a tube to Inari to visit the world renowned shrine of Fushimi Inari Taisha. Day 16

  Day 16 Just the knowledge of having to get up at 4 was enough for a sleepless night. So predictably when the alarm went off I was a complete mess. Still, we packed everything up and met the taxi driver outside the reception area just before 5 Somehow she managed to cram all our stuff (and us) into the car and it was a 40 minute ride to the airport. At the airport the guy on information lied by saying we didn’t have to do the self serve baggage check in as we absolutely did have to Eventually we managed that and to get through all of security in a fairly short time Excellent that we were there in good time, bad news was that nothing opened until 7 Still we queued for a cafe to open and ate some very poor cheesy hotdogs - it was the only thing on the menu we thought Kieren could cope with The plane left about 30 minutes late and we sat there prepared for the 14 hours to come I say prepared but yet again it was awful, made worse by the poor selection of movies When we did land and I...
